Two local Social Planning organizations are calling on the provincial government to develop and implement a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy. A coordinated plan with significant cross-ministerial resources and specific timelines and targets is being requested. A joint presentation to the Provincial pre-budget consultations in Guelph was made on January 30th, 2008 by the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries and the Social Planning program of United Way of Guelph & Wellington. The United Way of Guelph & Wellington is pleased to announce that the community has raised over $2,601,000 through the 2007 Campaign. “This is an outstanding accomplishment that is the result of incredible community support,” says Rick McCombie, 2006 and 2007 Campaign Chair. “There were many challenges this year, but the community came together to reach this significant achievement.
