On March 21st, the United Way held its Annual General Meeting in conjunction with a Community Soundings. This Community Soundings was hosted in an effort to gather the community’s ideas and opinions on the future direction of the organization as it faces change, including the retirement of long time Executive Director, Morris Twist, at the end of this year.
In addition to a brief presentation by past president Jennifer Mackie on the history of the United Way and a look at how it exists today, Mayor Karen Farbridge spoke to the group on the history of Guelph, the challenges the city will face in coming years, and the role that the United Way might play in that future. Concluding the presentations, those in attendance engaged in small group conversations addressing opinions and ideas about the future challenges and opportunities the United Way will face and how it should deal with these changes.
Currently, the Board of Directors and our various volunteer committees are looking at the report prepared by an outside consultant summarizing the key points of the discussion to determine future action steps. To take a look at this report please visit www.unitedwayguelph.com/news.html.
Thank you to the more than 100 guests who attended this event; your ideas and opinions have gone a long way in giving our Board members a strong understanding of the direction the United Way should be headed as it faces this significant change. |
